It occurred to me, now that I am in the process of helping a new client choose finishes for her kitchen, that some people are afraid of white. They think the kitchen will be too stark or feel cold and clinical. My client wants a white kitchen in her vintage 1925 Spanish style home, but just isn’t sure how it will feel.
My own kitchen in Santa Barbara was not white when we purchased the house, and there was no room in the budget for a major kitchen remodel. I loved the layout, but wanted a brighter, fresher spot to cook and entertain.
Many gallons of white paint later (see here for some of my favorite shades of white!), a skylight, and engineered hardwood floors and it looks like a different kitchen. And here’s how I kept it from looking like a cold white box!
The best way to bring in that warm and cozy feel is with wood. It can come in the form of counter stools, chairs, floors, or even cutting boards. It’s amazing what a difference it makes in a white kitchen.
Whether you have wood floors or tile in your kitchen, a rug not only adds warmth underfoot but can bring in a nice dose of color to an all white space.
Lastly, but just as important, are plants, flowers, and accessories. These give a kitchen life and character no matter how large or small.
If you’re thinking about going all white, go for it! It doesn’t take much to take it from a plain vanilla box to a warm and cozy space that you and your family and friends will want to spend time in.
These are great ideas Elizabeth.Thank you for sharing 💞💞💞
