summer in coastal connecticut

Summers in New England can be brutally hot and humid, especially in August.  I was lucky to experience some beautiful balmy clear days, a little rain, and even a few fall like days.  As a child, August was never my favorite month, even with my birthday at the tail end.  It signaled the end of carefree summer days and colder weather just around the corner.  I can appreciate August and September now.  The days are growing shorter, but it is still warm and everything remains green.  There hasn’t been a frost, so the flowers are still hanging on to the last golden days.

Here are a few snapshots from the East Coast!

The herb garden did better than expected in it’s galvanized container and a wood top added to our fire pit means we can use it all summer as a table too!

Good bye summer! Hello fall!

Looking forward to sharing fall in Connecticut when I return next month!

lovely fairfield county, connecticut

While I love living in Santa Barbara, California, there are some things that just can’t be duplicated here on the West coast.  A part of me will always love New England…Connecticut to be specific, where we still own a home.  Here are a few recent glimpses of some of my favorite things about Fairfield County, Connecticut. summer vibes at the little white beach bungalow

Summer is in full swing in New England.  While I was there in early to mid June, the temperatures started in the 60’s and then soared well into the 90’s!  I spent part of my time at the bungalow fine tuning the outdoor spaces and a bit of tweaking indoors too! Continue reading

Happy Thanksgiving!

We celebrated a family Thanksgiving in late October when my parents, husband and daughter could all be together in Connecticut.  I’m so grateful we could share that time together.  Here are a few glimpses into our holiday weekend… Continue reading

simple rugs for the barefoot home

I love being barefoot. I often padded around our Connecticut home shoeless or when it was cold, with a pair of warm socks. It’s amazing how much cleaner your rugs and floors stay!

Living in California, I’m barefoot year round. I love the feel of our oak floors on my feet and the soft cotton rug in my bedroom. To further enhance the serene, comfortable, casual, organic vibe in our homes on both coasts, I keep pattern to a minimum and make sure that the rugs feel good under foot. Continue reading
