I love being barefoot. I often padded around our Connecticut home shoeless or when it was cold, with a pair of warm socks. It’s amazing how much cleaner your rugs and floors stay!
Living in California, I’m barefoot year round. I love the feel of our oak floors on my feet and the soft cotton rug in my bedroom. To further enhance the serene, comfortable, casual, organic vibe in our homes on both coasts, I keep pattern to a minimum and make sure that the rugs feel good under foot.
By far my favorite company for purchasing rugs is Dash and Albert. They have a wide variety of different sizes, materials, and patterns. Their indoor/outdoor rugs are the bomb! Can you believe they can be hosed off? What??
Pottery Barn also is a source of affordable rugs. One of my favorite that I have used in both our coastal homes is their chunky wool and jute rug . It is perfect for a bedroom as it is soft under your feet, looks good, and wears well.
I knew I wanted a neutral, natural rug in our Connecticut dining room, but this Pottery Barn rug with the diamond pattern makes me smile.
Abaca rugs are thick beauties and incredibly smooth. I love the chunky organic texture it brings to our living room. They can be found at Serena and Lily and Williams Sonoma Home.
A cowhide rug is one of the easiest care rugs you can buy. They are practically bomb proof and oblivious to spills and stains. How many light colored rugs can you say that about? This one is from World Market and lends a natural vibe to our little fireside seating area. The price was well below most hides I had seen, but unfortunately they are no longer in stock. Overstock sells a faux cowhide version for $119.99. Etsy sellers such as Gaucho Cowhide Rugs are also a more economical way to go.
For a small bedroom where a large rug may overwhelm, I love to use small sheepskin rugs on either side of the bed. They can be found by an online search and are incredibly comfy to sink your tootsies into when getting in and out of bed.
One Kings Lane and Etsy are also great sources for rugs. I found this neutral vintage gem on One Kings Lane and love the character it brings to our kitchen.
Easy care, natural, barefoot comfy, and beautiful, are the things I look for to bring that organic Cali vibe to our homes.
