And the new mattress winner is…

Loom and Leaf mattress

Loom and Leaf by Saatva.  Those of you who follow my blog or Instagram account, know that during a recent renovation, our garage flooded. That wouldn’t have been too bad if our entire bedroom wasn’t being stored in it.  The mattress took the brunt of the deluge, turning it into a giant, smelly, five hundred pound sponge.

My bathroom renovation adventure

That’s the mattress on the bottom of the pile.

Obviously, I would need to order a new mattress.  I turned to my Instagram followers and asked them for recommendations.  They came through with so many wonderful suggestions.  I am used to innerspring mattresses, although we do have a memory foam one on the East Coast (which I hate). However, I was looking for something I could get quickly like those mattresses that come rolled up in a box. Casper, Tuft and Needle, Cocoon by Sealy, and Leesa were just a few of the many choices provided. Then someone responded that they had tried three different ones and of the three, Saatva was the clear winner.  I had never heard of this company before.

It was time to do some research.  It seems I am not alone in the quest for the ultimate mattress (with an affordable price tag). There are many sites dedicated to reviewing and comparing them.  Sleepopolis is just one of them.  Saatva and Loom and Leaf were consistently ranked on top. Saatva is the innerspring and Loom and Leaf is the memory foam.   I had a hard time finding a bad review. Still, this was a big decision and not to be taken lightly.

I was disappointed when I learned it would take between 7-14 days to get a Loom and Leaf mattress. But as my husband so astutely pointed out, what’s a few more days when we are talking about years of hopefully comfortable sleeping?  Excellent point. Also, unlike many of the other companies, they do not offer free shipping. There is a $99 delivery fee. So why you may ask, did I still choose this one?

I love that Loom and Leaf has two different comfort levels, relaxed firm and firm. I don’t like a super firm mattress and so many of the negative reviews were that the memory foam mattresses were too hard. That is definitely the case with our East Coast bed (it feels less like cement now that we have a cushy mattress pad on top of it!) I chose the relaxed firm.  While the delivery is not free, the mattress is brought into your house and placed on your bed….no cutting open a box and waiting for it to unfurl and for the strange odor to dissipate (a common complaint with mattresses in a box).

Some of the other features I liked was that it is American crafted, has plant based memory foam, cooling gel (a common complaint with memory foam is that they are hot), and an organic cotton cover.  I also was impressed with the 120 day trial period and a 15 year warranty. Finally, it is a fraction of the cost of a Tempur-pedic. That was enough for me to pull the trigger and order!

I received a text message confirming that everything was correct on my order.  Someone from Loom and Leaf called me the following day to see if I had any questions and to let me know when I would receive another call to set up delivery. It took 9 days and I was literally doing a happy dance on the day it arrived. Two delivery men placed it on my bed frame and I was now a happy new owner of a beautiful Loom and Leaf mattress.

Loom and Leaf mattress

My luxurious Loom and Leaf mattress is here at last!

I had read that it can sometimes take up to a week to get used to a memory foam after sleeping on an innerspring. It didn’t even take one night. I was surprised that while it felt firm, it was also soft in a good way.  Those funny little back twinges that I used to get with my previous mattress are a thing no more!

I’ve had my mattress for just over two weeks now and I couldn’t be happier. I often get asked if I was nervous about ordering a mattress without “trying”it in a store first.  The fact is, unless you are going to actually sleep on a mattress (which may be frowned upon by retailers), you have no idea if it is the right one.   With a 120 day trial period, it was a risk worth taking.

Thank you to all my Instagram friends for your helpful suggestions.  And a great big thank you to Loom and Leaf for a superior product and top notch customer service!

Sounds like a wonderful product, Elizabeth! We will be replacing our daughter’s mattress soon so it’s great that you shared your experience. Also, you would make an excellent salesperson, I am so disappointed to sleep on my regular mattress tonight :)))

It’s an easy sell, because it was such a positive experience from start to finish. A friend was just here visiting and she tried it out and loved it. Have a great weekend, Eva.

We just purchased the Saatva innerspring. I didn’t even know about Loom and Leaf. But we are really happy with the Saatva innerspring.

Both mattresses receive high marks. I figured that if I didn’t like the loom and leaf memory foam, I would try the Saatva. I figured it was a win no matter what 😉
