august in vermont

Summer in Vermont is so green and lush that it’s easy to see why its nickname is the Green Mountain State. It was an education for me to see my parents field being mowed,  tedded (fluffing the hay), and then baled.  And of course there is antiquing and seeing what new projects my parents are working on at their farmhouse.  Sharing a few photos from a fun filled few days…

The farmhouse looks so tiny! The newly mown hay yet to be baled.

Always happy to see my parents house!

The huge field is being mown by a local. In return he keeps the hay for his livestock.

Everyone’s favorite nook. The pillows are made from a Pottery Barn tablecloth and backed with my old linen curtains.

This kitchen…sigh.

Just through the small windows you can make out the barn. That’s the next project…repairing and picking the perfect red stain.

The new old bar adds the perfect touch of blue…

No, I didn’t buy these but was awed that these all came from the same tree!

When we arrived back from our field trip, the hay had all been neatly baled.

The bales are huge! There were over 50 of these dotted around the property.

My mom used another galvanized fire pit ring to plant an herb garden.

The last day was beautiful and I went on a long walk with my mom where we saw beautiful Vermont homes like this…

  1. Such a beautiful home, Elizabeth. Did you design it? We are native Vermonters who just moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. We LOVE the west, but are excited to visit “home” in a couple weeks for foliage season–Vermont’s best season!!

    • Hi Lisa. Thank you. My parents designed the home (my dad was a contractor for a number of years) and they did a lot of the work themselves. I helped with the decorating and some design decisions but all the glory goes to my very talented parents! I will hopefully be going back for fall foliage as long as my parents don’t have to go back to Florida to deal with the mess of Hurricane Irma. 😦

  2. I just love the simplicity of their home. Reminds so much of parts of my cottage in Northern MI. Thank you for sharing.
